This website is in transition. I'm optimistic that, when finished, it will be both easy to navigate and very informative. My goal is to complete the first iteration by January 1, 2014. In the meantime, the headshots above are up-to-date. The CV is also up-to-date. I am actively building the Teaching portfolio and Theatre portfolios, meaning they are incomplete, but what you can see is very current.
I'd love to work with you. Keep me in mind.
Who is Rebekah Lane?
When I was eleven my mother encouraged me to audition for Oliver! with the local community theatre. I was hooked. Soon afterward I was involved in the creation of a local children’s theatre company, and later I started the Pasco High School thespian troupe #5763. I watched the impact that exposure to theatre had on the people around me. Theatre gave them confidence. It brought them together in spite of their differences. Theatre affected their lives. Seeing this moved me. This is my foundation.
I am a theatre-maker. I earned my BFA in theatre performance at the University of Central Florida with an Honors certificate and the first Honors in the Major thesis from the UCF theatre department. Since then my identity has shifted to include a much broader concept of performance. I earned an MA in Communicstion, focusing on crafting persuasive, entertaining mesages. I've become a performance artist and storyteller. I've become an academic. I've become a teacher.
On this website you will see three main categories:
The "Performer" category includes clips from my acting and performance work. What you will see ranges from public speaking to traditional theatre and commercial work to movement and puppetry.
The "Facilitator" category includes items like my teaching philosophy and sample lessons. It includes the puppetry workshops I've build for MicheLee Puppets, workshops I've led independently, and the college-level public speaking work I am currently absorbed in.
Finally, in the section labeled "Creative Collaborator" you will find descriptions and samples of the original theatrical work I've developed.
As you browse this site, you'll see that my work is diverse, but my skill set is specific. I am a creative. My vehicle is comprised of story, performance, science, and theatre. I am driven to create positive change in my world. My passion will infect you. Let's play!
